El condor pasa

Probably the most famous Andean melody in the world. At the beginning, it’s a theatrical-musical work of the same name, which the main tune has been composed at the turn of the 20th century. This is a remake of a typical melody of the Andes, arranged in a story of Native exploitation in the mines of Peru. The Condor represents the aspiration to freedom of those oppressed group.

Presented in 1960 in Paris by the Peruvian group The Incas, this melody will be recovered time and again (Simon and Garfunkel in 1970, among others) with lyrics each time more and more different. Since 2004, this melody is classified National Cultural Heritage and we can often hear it in all the country.
